ABC is adding to the cast of its upcoming live episodes of All in the Family and The Jeffersons.
The network announced in a press release Monday that Kerry Washington is joining Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All In The Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons’ primetime event.
Washington will play Helen Willis in the one-night special from legendary producer Norman Lear and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
The actress also shared the news on Instagram with a photo of herself and Kimmel.
“People! I am crazy excited to be part of the cast of #LiveInFrontOfAStudioAudience, The Jeffersons, as Helen Willis,” she wrote. “It was the brainchild of my dear friend @jimmykimmel to bring @thenormanlear’s iconic series to you.”
The live primetime special will include one new episode of All in the Family and one new episode of its spinoff, The Jeffersons. Lear, who created the two sitcoms, will host and executive produce along with Kimmel.
The Jeffersons ran on TV from 1975 to 1985. It was the first series to feature an interracial couple, and it became one of the longest-running African-American shows on TV. The series followed George and Louise Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford) moving on up to the east side and showcasing what
it was like to be successful in a predominantly white world.
As Urban Hollywood 411 previously reported, Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes will play George and Louise Jefferson. Will Ferrell is set to star as their friend Tom Willis and Justina Machado will play sassy housekeeper Florence Johnston.
The All in the Family portion will star Woody Harrelson as Archie Bunker, with Marisa Tomei as his wife Edith.
Other cast members include Ellie Kemper (Gloria Stivic), Ike Barinholtz (Meathead), Sean Hayes (Mr. Lorenzo), Amber Stevens West (Jenny Willis Jefferson), Jovan Adepo (Lionel Jefferson), Anthony Anderson (Uncle Henry), Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bentley) and Jackée Harry (Diane Stockwell).
Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All In The Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons’ will air on ABC, Wednesday, May 22, from 8-9:30 PM ET.
