Tyler Perry Tells Fans John Singleton’s Death Was a ‘Wake Up Call’

Tyler Perry is urging fans to “take better care” of themselves, following John Singleton’s death at age 51 from complications of a stroke.

Perry shared a photo of a blood pressure monitor on Instagram Tuesday, which showed a healthy reading of 116/79.

The Madea Family Funeral director said his blood pressure check reminded him of Singleton’s untimely passing. He then urged his followers to exercise and get a physical.

“Took my blood pressure this morning, and it made me think about John Singleton and all of us,” Perry wrote.

“I want to ask you a few questions. When was the last time you checked your blood pressure? When was the last time you had a physical? When was the last time you ran a mile? When was the last time you checked in on YOU?John’s untimely death should be a wake up call to all of us. We gotta take better care of ourselves!!” he added.

The post prompted thousands of comments, including one from Kevin Hart.

“Such a good post and message,” Hart replied.

Singleton died on April 28. The groundbreaking filmmaker had been in a coma after suffering a stroke on April 17. His family issued a statement saying they ultimately made the difficult decision to take him off of life support.
