It looks like DJ Spinderella won’t be joining Salt-N-Pepa on their North American tour after all.

The legendary DJ made the announcement Thursday on Instagram, saying she’d been fired from the female rap group, which she joined in the 1980s.

Spinderella — real name Deidra Muriel Roper — said she was supposed to be a special guest on the New Kids On The Block Mixtape Tour, along with her Salt-N-Pepa group members, Naughty By Nature, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. The tour started Thursday night in Cincinnati, but Spinderella wasn’t there.

“I’m deeply saddened to share with all the #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella fans that I will not be performing on the #NKOTB Mixtape Tour,” she wrote.

Even though she was billed as part of the concert series, Spinderella revealed she was “terminated” in January via email.

“Despite my participation in promoting the tour and being highly publicized as one of the acts, in January 2019 I received a ‘termination’ email from #SaltnPepa excluding me from performances with the group. It was my expectation, after making that decision, that they would also take responsibility for sharing the news with the public and other affected parties. It has been months now with no mention,” she continued.

Spinderella said she went public with the news on IG to let fans know what was going on.

“Out of love for my fans and a commitment to upholding a standard of professionalism, I’ve taken it upon myself to let everyone know. I refuse to participate in misleading fans, ticketholders, and others who — based on all the advertising — were anticipating seeing the iconic #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella trio. So, I’m making it clear now. Please know you will have the opportunity to see me this summer in many other projects and activities I’ll be participating in and I look forward to seeing you all then,” she concluded.

So far, Salt-N-Pepa hasn’t issued a public response to the post.

The group has other projects in the works, including a scripted miniseries for Lifetime.  As Urban Hollywood 411 previously reported, the series will tell the story of how Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton rose to success in the male-dominated rap industry. The two are serving as executive producers and have given permission for their  hit singles, including  “Let’s Talk About Sex” and “What a Man” to be included.

The series is currently in development.
