Beyoncé Fans Slam Taylor Swift For ‘Ripping Off’ Beychella at BBMAs

Beyoncé’s Beyhive isn’t happy with Taylor Swift.

Fans took Swift to task Wednesday night, accusing her of ripping Queen Bey’s historic 2018 Coachella performance aka “Beychella” at the Billboard Music Awards. Netflix recently featured the celebrated set in Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, which the singer co-directed and produced.

Some viewers at home couldn’t help but notice similarities between Swift’s performance of her new single, ME!, and Beyoncé’s Coachella show, noting that both women were introduced by a drumline squad.

Many people argued that the pop star co-opted Beyoncé’s tribute to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) by including a marching band dressed in all pink.

“Taylor is a rip-off and a fraud,” someone tweeted.

Another person penned: “I don’t know if y’all are seeing this but Taylor Swift is gentrifying Beyonce’s Coachella performance right now.”

“Beyonce didn’t invent a drum line but you can’t convince me that Taylor Swift, from her early years on a Christmas tree farm, came up with this just like that,” one person joked. “Sorry.”

Celebrity gossip website Bossip delivered one of the most hilarious takes from the night, tweeting: “MAGAchella: Beyoncé Tether Taylor Swift Used The Unseasoning Stone And A Marching Bland To Gentrify Beychella And Got Banished To The Alabaster Abyss.”

Others, however, argued that Beyoncé didn’t “invent” marching bands. “Look I don’t love Taylor Swift or her music but she didn’t copy Beyoncé… Beyoncé didn’t invent marching bands,” someone said.

Swift has yet to respond to the backlash.
