Jaden Smith has Kanye West’s blessing to play the I Love It rapper on a new television show.
Smith has signed on to portray a younger version of West in the Showtime anthology series Omniverse, according to Variety.
The limited half-hour show is described as “examining the many doors of perception,” and comes from West, Scooter Braun and writer Lee Sung Jin. Season 1 will explore the ego through an alternate reality Kanye West.
West will executive produce alongside Braun, James Shin, and Scott Manson on behalf of Braun’s media company, SB Projects. Miguel Melendez and Smith will also executive produce for Westbrook Studios.
Braun previously served as West’s talent manager, and currently works with Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.
Smith has appeared in the film The Karate Kid, as well as The Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth alongside his dad Will Smith. He also had roles in two Netflix projects, the animated series Neo Yokio and Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down.
In addition to acting, he has a rap career and performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last month in Indio, California.
The release date for Omniverse has not yet been announced.
