‘Avengers: Endgame’ Rules the World With Record $1.2 Billion Debut

Avengers: Endgame is literally the world’s biggest movie ever.

The Disney-Marvel superhero saga obliterated just about every record on the books, taking in $350 million in North America, according to Comscore. That’s the biggest domestic opening ever, and the film set a new standard overseas with a staggering $859 million in ticket sales, for a record worldwide total of $1.2 billion.

The film from directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo features an all-star cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin.

“Audiences absolutely loved the film and according to Comscore’s PostTrak audience survey, they gave Endgame a full 5 out of 5 stars with a massive 90 total positive score,” noted Comscore Sr. Media Analyst Paul​ Dergarabedian. “A whopping 82% said they would ‘definitely recommend the film to a friend.'”

Critics handed the movie a stamp of approval too, giving it an impressive 96% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviews describing the film as “spectacular,” “action-packed” and “emotionally-satisfying.”

Endgame is the fourth and final Avengers superhero movie, delivering a fitting finale.

No other film came close at the weekend box office. Disney’s Captain Marvel was a distant second with $8 million.

The Curse of La Llorona took third with $7.5 million. Breakthrough was fourth with $6.3 million and
Shazam! rounded out the top five with $5.5 million.
