Whitney Houston’s longtime friend Robyn Crawford is releasing a book about their “complicated” relationship.

Crawford, who met the late singer when they were teenagers, will cover the “great joys, wild adventures, and hard truths of her life with Whitney” in the memoir titled, A Song for You: My Life With Whitney Houston.

Penguin Random House, the book’s publisher, described Crawford as the person who knew Houston “best.” The tell-all, which will hit shelves on Nov. 5, 2019, also promises to “set the record straight” regarding the musical icon’s “complex life.”

“From countless sold-out world tours to her epic rendition of the US national anthem to the set of The Bodyguard, her tempestuous marriage, and the birth of her only child, Robyn was there,” the synopsis states.

Along with being Houston’s close friend, Crawford served as her assistant and creative director. They were often spotted together, leading to speculation that their relationship was romantic.

Houston denied the rumors in 1987, stating in an interview with TIME: “My mother taught me that when you stand in the truth and someone tells a lie about you, don’t fight it.”

She added: “People see Robyn with me, and they draw their own conclusions. Anyway, whose business is it if you’re gay or like dogs? What others do shouldn’t matter. Let people talk. It doesn’t bother me because I know I’m not gay. I don’t care.”

Crawford elaborated in the same article: “I tell my family, ‘You can hear anything on the streets, but if you don’t hear it from me, it’s not true.'”

The pair’s friendship fell off a bit after Houston married R&B singer Bobby Brown in 1992. Brown claimed that this ex-wife and Crawford were engaged in a romantic relationship at one point, telling Us Weekly in June 2016: “I know. We were married for 14 years. There are some things we talked about that were personal to us.”
