Being Mary Jane is ending tonight with a two-hour series finale.
Gabrielle Union’s character Mary Jane Paul, who spent the past four seasons juggling romance, family and a career as a TV news anchor, may finally get her happy ending.
A previously released teaser trailer for the BET series shows Mary Jane preparing to walk down the aisle. The big question is which man ultimately won her heart. It could be her new love, played by Morris Chestnut. But then again, she may decide to jump the broom with old flame Justin, played by Michael Ealy.
On Tuesday, Union took to Instagram to say the episode will be “explosive.”
“Back to where it all started… Tonight is the explosive 2 hour series finale,” she wrote.
A day earlier she paid tribute to her character and the series, created by Mara Brock Akil.
“In Spring of 2012, I got the opportunity of a lifetime — Pauletta ‘Mary Jane’ Patterson came into my life,” Union wrote on Instagram.
“In many ways we shared similar struggles and triumphs, loves and losses, and especially the penchant for epic reads,” she continued. “We’ve laughed, cried, cried some more, screamed, rolled our eyes, sucked our teeth, walked away and come back in frustration…whether we acknowledged it or rejected it, she at times was us, and we were her.”
The finale had been planned for 2018, but was pushed back. Now fans will see Mary Jane get a proper sendoff, and possibly prove you can have it all.
With Being Mary Jane ending, Union is executive producing and starring in the Bad Boys spinoff L.A.’s Finest with Jessica Alba, which premieres May 13 on Spectrum Cable. She’s also joining America’s Got Talent as a judge.
The series finale for Being Mary Jane airs on BET, Tuesday, April 23 at 8 pm ET/PT.
It will be followed by the premiere of Games People Play about three ambitious women with ties to the world of professional sports. The drama stars Lauren London, Karen Obilom and Parker McKenna Posey.
It’s executive produced by Tracey Edmonds, and co-stars Sarunas J. Jackson (Insecure) and Jackie Long (Real Husbands Of Hollywood).
