‘Little’ Makes Solid Debut at Weekend Box Office

Shazam! packed another punch, Little opened solid and Hellboy flamed out at the weekend box office.

Superhero adventure Shazam! took the top spot for a second straight weekend, this time bringing in an estimated $25.1 million from North American theaters, according to Comscore.

The Warner Bros. and DC Comics production stars Zachary Levi (as adult superhero Shazam) and Asher Angel (as the 14-year-old Billy Batson), and is directed by David F. Sandberg.

Coming in second place was Universal’s body-swapping comedy Little, with a solid $15.5 from 2,667 locations in its debut. The film features Girls Trip co-star Regina Hall and Black-ish actress Marsai Martin. It’s produced by Will Packer Productions on a reported $20 million budget.

The news wasn’t as good for Hellboy, which opened in third place with $12.01 million in 3,303 locations. The Lionsgate/Millennium release was made with a reported $50 million production budget. Its disappointing opening came after the film was pummeled by critics with a 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Elsewhere, Stephen King’s Pet Sematary scared up another $10.0 million in its second weekend in theaters.

Disney’s Dumbo remake rounded out the top five with $9.2 million.
