An accident on the set of the new Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba series, L.A.’s Finest, has left co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier seriously injured.

During filming in San Pedro, Calif. on Feb. 21, Sonnier was injured when a car stunt scene went awry.

Sonnier and fellow showrunner, Brandon Margolis, were watching the scene unfold from video monitors in the set’s video village area when the car crashed into a cargo crate, with “the container and/or the car smashing into the video village, which had been set up behind the crate,” according to Deadline.

The exact details are unclear, but Sonnier suffered a major injury to one of his legs due to the crash. On-set sources suggested to Deadline that the writer-producer’s leg was pinned in the wreckage.

Sonnier was then rushed to the hospital, where his leg was reportedly amputated below the knee. The former Blacklist executive story editor remained hospitalized as of Thursday.

As for Margolis, he suffered minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and will air on Charter Communications’ premium content initiative, Spectrum Originals.

In light of the co-showrunners’ injuries, Sony Pictures TV released a statement wishing the co-showrunners well. “Our hearts go out to our SPT family members who were injured and we pray for a full recovery,” SPT President Jeff Frost and co-Presidents Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter said in the statement.

“We are saddened by this incident and send our most heartfelt wishes to our two beloved crew members, hoping their recovery is both swift and complete,” added Katherine Pope, head of Spectrum Originals.

Production was canceled the Friday following the incident, and it’s unclear when filming will resume.

L.A.’s Finest — a spin-off of the Bad Boys film series — follows the trials and tribulations of LAPD detective Syd Burnett (Union) and her new partner, Nancy McKenna (Alba). Union and Alba also serve as executive producers, along with Bad Boys franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The show will premiere May 13 on Spectrum cable.
