Twenty years after the original series ended, Malik Yoba is returning to New York Undercover.
The actor has signed on to reprise his role as Detective J.C. Williams in an ABC pilot, Variety reported Friday.
The network announced it was picking up the pilot for a potential series in January, but it was unclear if any of the original cast members would be returning.
The original version was created by Dick Wolf and Kevin Arkadie, and aired on Fox from 1994 to 1999. The series co-starred Michael DeLorenzo, Patti D’Arbanville and Luna Lauren Velez, and made history as the first police drama led by multiple people of color.
Wolf and Hand of God creator Ben Watkins will write and executive produce the pilot, which will pick up two decades later, with Williams overseeing a new generation of detectives.
Yoba has stayed busy over the years, and was most recently seen on Empire, Designated Survivor and The Last O.G.
