The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner released the cause of death Friday for Chris Burrous, saying the KTLA anchor died of methamphetamine toxicity.

Other contributing factors included hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The coroner’s report listed Burrous’ death as accidental.

The newscaster died in Glendale, Calif. on Dec. 27, 2018. He was 43.

Police responded after receiving a call from a man at a Days Inn reporting the individual he was with had passed out and was possibly not breathing.

The coroner’s report said Burrous was using drugs at the motel and engaging in sexual activity with his male companion when he went into medical distress.

Glendale police said at the time they were investigating the death as a suspected overdose.

An autopsy was performed the following day, but the results were deferred pending additional tests.
