Rapper 21 Savage was released on bond Tuesday following his arrest earlier this month by immigration agents, for allegedly staying in the United States after his visa expired.

“Today, 21 Savage was granted a release on bond,” his attorneys said in a statement to the New York Daily News. “He won his freedom.”

The statement from lawyers Charles H. Kuck, Dina LaPolt and Alex Spiro added:  “He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country. And he asks for your hearts and minds to be with them.”

The hip-hop star, whose real name is She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was taken into custody during a targeted operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Feb. 3.

ICE alleged the U.K. national had a felony conviction, in addition to overstaying his visa. Once in custody, he was placed into deportation proceedings in federal immigration court.

The 26-year-old rapper’s lawyers said Tuesday the Atlanta-based star was granted an expedited hearing. But according to published reports, he still faces deportation.

Last week, Jay-Z stepped in to help the embattled rapper by hiring an immigration attorney to assist in his fight with ICE.

In a statement on Feb. 6, Jay-Z said: “The arrest and detention of 21 Savage is an absolute travesty, his U visa petition has been pending for 4 years. In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately, #Free21Savage.”

21 Savage was nominated for two Grammy Awards — record of the year and best rap/sung performance, however, he missed the ceremony Sunday in Los Angeles because he was in ICE custody.
