XXXTentacion wasn’t nominated for a Grammy Award, but his fans were still disappointed the late rapper wasn’t included in the Grammys In Memoriam segment.

His absence apparently wasn’t an oversight, it was intentional because of the South Florida native’s troubled legacy.

XXXTentacion’s reps reportedly asked Grammy organizers multiple times to acknowledge his death
during Sunday night’s broadcast, but they were turned down because of allegations concerning the rapper’s alleged violent past, Variety reported.

“Because of the rapper’s history of domestic violence, the show opted not to include him alongside such acts as Avicii and Mac Miller,” the publication said.

At the time of his death, the 20-year-old performer was awaiting trial for a 2016 domestic abuse case, after allegedly beating and threatening to kill his pregnant ex-girlfriend. He was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant victim and witness tampering. He had also been accused of punching fans at concerts.

Last year Spotify said it would remove XXXTentacion’s music from its curated playlists as part of its new policy targeting hate content and hateful conduct.

XXXTentacion, born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, died on June 18 after he was ambushed and fatally shot during a robbery outside a motorcycle dealership in Broward County, Florida. Four men have since been arrested and charged with first degree murder with a firearm and armed robbery.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel previously reported that XXXTentacion stopped by a bank before he went shopping and withdrew $50,000. His killers are accused of stealing  the money out of the BMW the rapper was driving when he was shot.

Shortly after he died,  XXXTentacion’s single Sad! went triple platinum. His current single, Arms Around You, with Lil Pump featuring Swae Lee and Maluma, peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
