Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios is preparing to launch a Spanish-language streaming weather network, the company announced Monday.

Described as the nation’s first Spanish-language weather streaming service, the digital network will be called The Weather Channel en Español, and is scheduled to go live in the first quarter of 2020.

“The Hispanic marketplace is indexing extremely well with streaming services and is severely underserved,” Entertainment Studios Founder, Chairman and CEO Byron Allen said in a statement to Urban Hollywood 411.

Allen added that the service is being launched to connect with the nation’s growing Hispanic population, and to provide Spanish speakers with much-needed information during extreme weather events.

“Our launch of The Weather Channel en Español is historic, and is a recognition of the continued and significant growth of the U.S. Hispanic population and the constant need to keep the entire public informed and safe,” he said.

The new service will feature Spanish-speaking weather reporters and hosts offering forecasts seven days a week on conditions in the U.S. and its territories, including Puerto Rico, as well as details on weather conditions in Mexico and Central America.

There will also be reporters in the field covering weather events, and the new channel will have access to the full resources at The Weather Channel.

Allen acquired The Weather Channel television network and its streaming service, Local Now, in 2018.

Entertainment Studios’ other holdings include PETS.TV, COMEDY.TV, CARS.TV and Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures.
