The new trailer for Shaft is out and it’s a bad mother…
Samuel L. Jackson returns as John Shaft II in this latest installment of the franchise. The film also introduces his slightly awkward son, John Shaft Jr. (Jessie T. Usher), and original John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) is along for the ride.
Roundtree first played Shaft in the original 1971 film and starred in two sequels (Shaft’s Big Score! and Shaft in Africa). Jackson put a new spin on the franchise in Shaft (2000) as nephew of the original private eye.
The trailer for Shaft (2019) debuted Wednesday night at the African American Film Critics Awards in Los Angeles and during a cast reunion on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where Roundtree, Jackson and Usher made a stylish entrance dressed alike in turtlenecks and trench coats.
The film also stars Regina Hall, Lauren Velez and Alexandra Shipp.
The New Line Cinema release is directed by Tim Story with a script from Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow.
It’s scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 14.
