R. Kelly is potentially facing more legal trouble.

Building inspectors announced earlier this week that the R&B singer’s Chicago-based recording studio was allegedly used as a residential space, The Chicago Tribune reported.

The industrial property located at 219 N. Justine St. was not zoned for residential use, and the building’s owner could be fined up to $1,000 per day per violation if found guilty. Kelly could be responsible for these fines if he violated the terms of his lease.

Adding to his legal woes, Kelly is reportedly under criminal investigation in Georgia regarding the allegations made in Lifetime’s docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly. Prosecutors in Chicago also announced they are looking into claims against the singer.

Some of the violations that were reportedly uncovered at Kelly’s studio — which is currently listed on the market for close to $4 million — include allegedly “hosting illegal parties” and sealing up the windows to make the industrial building habitable.

These alleged violations will be presented in court on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

“City inspectors will now process and itemize the building code violations observed during the inspection and will incorporate the violations into an amended complaint for the next court hearing,” City of Chicago Department of Buildings spokesperson Gregg Cunningham told the Tribune in an email.

Kelly’s lawyer, Melvin Sims, has denied any wrongdoing on behalf of his client.

“The spurious statements that individuals were living in that subject premises were debunked by the inspection yesterday,” he said in a statement. “No one was found to be living in the subject premises and of course no one lives in the subject premises.”

The legal drama surrounding the Fiesta singer’s studio comes days after a #MuteRKelly protest was held in front of Sony Music headquarters in New York City.

Some fans want Sony-owned label RCA Records to drop the 52-year-old entertainer in light of the sexual abuse allegations against him.

Surviving R. Kelly alleged that Kelly had sex with underage girls, held women as sex slaves and his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, claimed she suffered years of abuse.

One of the musician’s attorneys,  Steve Greenberg, said in a statement about the claims: “The allegations aren’t true because he never knowingly had sex with an underage woman, he never forced anyone to do anything, he never held anyone captive, he never abused anyone.”
