Alicia Keys Set to Host the 2019 Grammy Awards

Alicia Keys will host of the 61st Annual Grammy Awards next month, the Recording Academy announced Tuesday.

“I know what it feels like to be on that stage, and I’m going to bring that vibe and energy,” Keys said in a
statement. “I’m so excited to be the master of ceremonies on the biggest night in music and celebrate the creativity, power and magic. I’m especially excited for all the incredible women nominated this year!”

The Un-Thinkable singer shared the news on social media, along with a link to a YouTube video
that begins with the moment she received the phone call offering her the hosting job. The clip shows an excited Keys in a recording studio. The Voice alum then lets her family know, including husband Swizz Beats.

“Congratulations,” he said from bed. “But you could have waited till I got dressed.”

Keys has won 15 Grammys over the course of her career.

It will be her first time serving as emcee of the show, which has previously been hosted by James Corden, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres, and others.

The announcement that Keys has been tapped to host comes after a backlash last year when the Grammys were criticized for a lack of female nominees.

The Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on CBS and CBS All Access.
