Fans will have to wait a little longer to see Wendy Williams back in her purple chair.

The Wendy Williams Show released a statement via Instagram Thursday, confirming Williams will return to the show on Monday, Jan. 21, a week after her previously announced start date.

Citing the television personality’s shoulder injury as cause for the delay, the message reads: “To our loyal Wendy Watchers – To allow enough time for her shoulder recovery, Wendy will now return on Monday, January 21.”

The daytime talk show, which has aired reruns since Dec. 24, will run new episodes on Monday, Jan. 14, with the help of panelists.

“Starting this Monday, January 14 we will be LIVE with a week of panels of your favorite ‘Hot Talkers!'” the post continues. “We love you for watching!”

Debmar-Mercury, the company that distributes and produces Wendy, released a supportive statement in light of the delay.

“As she has for the past 10 years, Wendy delivers an incomparable live talk show day in and day out and we want to give her the best opportunity to heal and recover,” co-presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein told Variety. “Wendy has our complete and unwavering support and we look forward to her return to the iconic purple chair.”

Williams’ extended hiatus comes weeks after she slurred her words during a Thursday, Dec. 20 taping.

“To My Wendy Watchers, I sincerely apologize if you feel that today’s show was less than stellar,” she apologized on-air the following day. “I’m on your TV screens every day wanting to spread laughter, entertainment and cheer.”

The host blamed painkillers for her strange behavior, revealing that she took the meds prior to taping because her hairline fracture “hurt like hell.”

“I’ve never taken pain medication in my life (except when I got snatched over 20 years ago) until this week,” she added. “I did that to power through and try to deliver a great show for you, against the better judgment of the many people around me who genuinely care for my well-being.”

Wendy airs weekdays on Fox-owned stations.

  1. Wendy is prone to sore throat…she was so disappointed that she wouldn’t be in a play…that being said does anyone think Wendy has the flu?…get well soon Wendy and don’t return until you’re better…your health comes first.
