Sade has returned with new single The Big Unknown for the upcoming film Widows.

The ballad was quietly released Friday, ahead of the critically acclaimed crime thriller’s Nov. 16 opening.

The film centers on four women who pull off a robbery to pay the debts of their late husbands. It stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Kaluuya, Brian Tyree Henry, Colin Farrell and Liam Neeson.

The lyric video for the single features Sade Adu’s signature vocals, along with footage from the film of a heartbroken Davis.

“I’m just trying to hold on / I’m falling in the dark below / I feel I’m falling in the big unknown,” Sade sings. “Here in the deep below / I will rise / I will rise again/ A humble seed will grow.”

The film — based on a 1980s British television series by the same name — is adapted by director Steve
McQueen, who won a best picture Academy Award for 12 Years a Slave.

“It was an honor to work with such a legend,” McQueen previously told the Los Angeles Times. “Sade is an incomparable talent and incredible artist who so rarely releases new material, but luckily the original series of Widows had deeply resonated with her.”

The Big Unknown will play over the credits for the film and is Sade’s second movie contribution this year, after the British band’s single Flower of the Universe was featured on the soundtrack for Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time.

The group’s last album, Soldier of Love, was released in 2010. This past July, Sade bandmember Stuart Matthewman told Rated R&B the group is currently working on a new album.

Widows and its soundtrack will arrive on Friday.
