Former Los Angeles Lakers MVP Kobe Bryant is taking on a slate of new projects through his entertainment company, Granity Studios.
In an announcement Thursday, Granity detailed plans to develop family friendly sports-themed content centering around young athlete protagonists.
“I built Granity Studios as a platform to create and share original stories to inspire today’s young athletes,” Bryant said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s surprisingly little content that combines the passion of sports and the traditions of original storytelling. Granity Studios will fill that void.”

As part of its plan, Granity will publish a series of Young Adult and Middle Grade novels that the NBA champion will conceptualize. The novels will be released in 2019 and 2020 by Granity’s own publishing branch via a distribution partnership with Two Rivers Distribution.
Granity plans to turn the books into television, animation and live theater productions.
The projects are Bryant’s first major Hollywood move since winning an Oscar earlier this year for his short film, Dear Basketball.
