Kanye West delivered some of the most unusual moments ever seen on Saturday Night Live.
In a series of confusing performances, the rapper — who announced earlier in the day he now goes by the name Ye — dressed as a Perrier water bottle for one song, wore a MAGA hat while performing another and went on a political rant about President Trump and the “liberal” news after the show ended.
Just before the credits rolled on the NBC series’ 44th season opener, host Adam Driver introduced West for a rare third performance.

Wearing a red hat featuring President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan, the hip-hop star performed his recently released single Ghost Town along with recording artists 070 Shake, Kid Cudi and Ty Dolla $ign.
Many SNL viewers disapproved of West’s hat choice and flooded Twitter with complaints.
“Kanye in that Make America great hat makes me gag. I really don’t like him,” one viewer tweeted.

A second person wrote, “Kanye can stay seated with his maga hat. Sellout.”

A third person tweeted a picture of West wearing his MAGA hat, along with the comment: “The Perrier bottle was only the 2nd worst costume Kanye put on tonight.”
Once the show was over, West stayed on stage and went on a political rant.
In clips posted on social media, the defiant rapper said members of the SNL team “bullied” him to try and stop him from wearing the MAGA hat.
He also addressed his support for Trump and fired back at critics who say he’s in “the sunken place.”
“So many times I talk to a white person and [they] say, ‘How could you like Trump, he’s racist?’” West stated. “Well, if I was concerned about racism I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago.”
Then it was on to “the sunken place” (compliant in his own oppression).
“You wanna see the sunken place? Okay, Im’a listen to y’all now. I’ma put my superman cape on, because this means you can’t tell me what to do. Follow your heart and stop following your mind… If you want the world to move forward, try love,” he said.
At one point, someone in the audience yelled, “We love you Kanye.” The rapper responded by saying, “I love me too. And I love ya’ll too, so bring the band back.”
As music played in the background, West began to sing — belting out the phrase “try love, try love, try love.” Moments later, he chastised the audience for laughing: “You see they laughing at me.”
Jokes aside, this was one SNL premiere fans won’t soon forget.
