Just one month before it was slated to arrive in theaters, City of Lies about the murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G. starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, has been pulled from release.

The film was slated to open on Sept. 7, but distributor Global Road Entertainment suddenly yanked it from the release schedule, Variety reported Monday. No new release date has been set.

Depp stars in the film as disgraced LAPD Detective Russell Poole, who was tasked with solving the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. Whitaker co-stars as journalist Jack Johnson, who teams up with Poole to help crack the cases. Both crimes remain unsolved.

The film, directed by Brad Furman, is based on Randall Sullivan’s book, LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal.

Over the past several months, Depp has continued to make headlines for problems in his personal life.

Last month former location manager, Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, sued Depp alleging the actor punched him twice on the Los Angeles set of City of Lies. Brooks also alleged he was fired from the movie after refusing to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which would have prevented him from suing Depp. He is seeking unspecified damages.

Also in July, the actor settled a $25 million lawsuit with his former business managers, who accused him of wild spending.

In June, Rolling Stone published a profile on Depp saying he is nearly broke after squandering $650 million in earnings.

In 2016, Depp reached a multi-million dollar divorce settlement with then-wife Amber Heard, who accused him of domestic violence.

Depp’s next film is the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The movie is scheduled to open in November.
