The Force struck turbulence at the Memorial Day weekend box office.

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story took in an estimated $103 million domestically over the four-day holiday weekend, falling below initial analyst projections of a $130 million to $150 million opening.

Solo, a prequel about the origins of Han Solo, also opened below fellow stand-alone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which debuted to $155 million domestically over three days in 2016.

Directed by Oscar-winner Ron Howard, Solo stars Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo. Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, Joonas Suotamo and Phoebe Waller-Bridge round out the cast.

The film made $65 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total $168 million –  far below its reported $250 million production budget. That steep price tag does not include marketing costs.

Here at home, Solo may have been hurt by brand fatigue since Star Wars: The Last Jedi stormed into theaters just five months ago on Dec. 15, 2017.

Solo also faced tough competition at the summer box office with Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War still bringing in legions of fans.

Deadpool 2 came in second over the weekend with an estimated four-day total of $55 million, while Avengers: Infinity War was third with $21 million.

Book Club took fourth place with $12,500,000, and Life of the Party rounded out the top five with $7 million.
