Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now husband and wife.
But before the British prince and the American actress exchanged vows Saturday in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth II conferred a new title on Harry — Duke of Sussex and upon marriage, Meghan became the Duchess of Sussex.
Yes, Meghan was an actress. But who knew she had so many celebrity friends? The royal wedding had more star power than many Hollywood red carpet events.
Among the celebrities spotted in St George’s Chapel were Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, Idris Elba, James Corden, Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra, Meghan’s former Suits co-stars and tennis champion Serena Williams.
Prince Harry’s Arrival at Windsor Castle
Prince Harry arrived with his brother, Prince William, who served as his best man. Both wore formal military uniforms, and the two waved and smiled at well-wishers as they walked into the 15th-century church.
Meghan’s Journey to the Ceremony
Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland, were chauffeured to Windsor Castle in a vintage Rolls Royce. As the car slowly made the 30 minute journey to the wedding ceremony, Meghan could be seen through the windows wearing a white dress and a long veil.
Prince Charles’ Support
When she arrived at St George’s Chapel, Meghan was a vision in white. She walked up the stairs to the church giving millions of people watching on television and the internet a glimpse of her demure Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy gown.
With her father thousands of miles away recovering from heart surgery, Prince Charles walked Meghan down the aisle. As Prince Harry’s father and his bride walked arm-in-arm, two little page boys carefully carried the long train of Meghan’s dress.
Once Meghan stood at the altar with Harry, they smiled at each other, and Harry said to Meghan: “You look amazing.”
The Most Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, the African-American leader of the Episcopal Church, delivered a moving yet humorous sermon about love.
“There’s power in love,” he said during his lengthy remarks. “Love can help and heal when nothing else can. There’s power in love to lift up and liberate when nothing else will.”
Husband and Wife
After Harry and Meghan exchanged vows and rings, the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, declared them “husband and wife.”
