Prince Charles will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle at her wedding to Prince Harry, Kensington Palace announced Friday.

“Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day,” the palace said in a statement posted to Twitter. “The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”

The announcement came after Meghan confirmed Thursday that her father, Thomas Markle, would miss the wedding after reportedly undergoing heart surgery.

“Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” the bride-to-be said in a statement provided by Kensington Palace. “I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.”

Thomas told TMZ that doctors implanted around three stents in his blood vessels to clear blockages.

“I’m OK. It will take a long time to heal,” the 73-year-old said. “Staying in the hospital a few more days. Not allowed to get excited.”

Thomas made headlines last weekend after reportedly working with a celebrity photographer to stage photos of himself that were sold to newspapers and websites around the world.

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, has traveled to the U.K. from Southern California and will accompany her daughter to the wedding, the royal family has said.

Ragland was scheduled to meet Queen Elizabeth for tea on Friday, after meeting with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla earlier in the week.

The royal family also confirmed that Prince Harry’s 96-year-old grandfather, Prince Philip, will be attending the wedding following a recent hip surgery.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor at noon local time (7 a.m. ET) on Saturday.

After the wedding, Harry and Meghan will travel around Windsor in a horse-drawn carriage to share their big day with members of the public who will be lining the streets.
