Michael B. Jordan says stories suggesting he doesn’t date black women “couldn’t be further from the truth.”

The Black Panther actor addressed rumors about his personal life in the cover story for the June issue of Essence.

Jordan, 31, told the magazine he and his family got a kick out of the rumors.

“It’s so funny to everybody because it couldn’t be further from the truth,” he said. “My dad and my mom both said, ‘If they only knew.’ If they only knew. And that’s the thing that keeps me not tripping about it, you know what I mean?”

The rumors heated up after Jordan said in an interview on The Breakfast Club that he likes “women period, all women, everybody’s on the table.”

The actor’s dating life was called into question again on Tuesday after he posted rapper Nick Grant’s music video for Black Woman on Instagram saying it was hot, and some fans accused him of being a hypocrite.

Jordan told Essence the rumors  have made him reconsider what he says and does in public.

“It makes me hesitant about whoever I’m seen with,” he explained. “I’m finally starting to get to a place now where I don’t care, but it bothered me for a minute. It made me more conscious of things I say and how I move, and what could happen if I leave a club or a restaurant or the movies.”

The new issue of Essence arrives on newsstands May 25.
